When I painted this plant, I was mainly interested in the patterns made by the group of flowers, the shape made by the foliage around them, and the delicate details in the middle of each flower. I am attracted to these flowers because their smell reminded me of sunny childhood summers, carefree and happy. Also, the look of this plant with its distinctive white flowers with delicate yellow strands, starkly contrasted against the vibrant green and black background of the leaves makes for a striking composition. Another name I gave this painting was 'Purity' because on close inspection of the shape and forms of the leaves, there are hints of eroticism that gives this painting a whole new symbolism: purity (the flowers) vs sin (the leaves).
