My passion for Nature and particularly flowers was the catalyst for this painting which I hope will be the first of a series of paintings of calendar flowers. I began with August as it's a special month for me and researched the flowers attributed to this month. I composed the painting using the two flowers: gladioli and poppy and added the Physalis Chinese lantern buds (which will be a motif in all the works) to give the painting a diagonal directionality. The leaves of the Monstera plant gives the flowers a dark base and the light flesh pink background makes the bright colours pop.
