Watercolour on paper

This is a study of a type of seaweed called 'bladderwort' which I found on a beach at St Bees in Cumbria on holiday. I used watercolour because I thought it was most appropriate for a creature of the water. The twisted shapes and bulbus forms give the painting a stocky appearance. The limited colour palette of green's, blues and oranges with a touch of red all worked beautifully to give the striking colours. Currently shown unframed.
